Regional School District 13 Music Department
Dean Coutsouridis is director of bands at Coginchaug Regional High School which include, Concert Band, Freshman Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Dixieland Combo and PEP Band. Mr. Coutsouridis earned his Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Western Connecticut State University and a Master of Liberal Studies Degree with a concentration in World Music from Wesleyan University. Mr.Coutsouridis performs on alto saxophone, flute, EWI (a wind synthesizer) and guitar on a weekly basis with Prelude Band (event/wedding band), The Dayton Rich Band or Basically Blues. He also enjoys song writing and recording local music projects in his home digital recording studio. "Mr. Couts" has also created a project recording studio at CRHS to record student ensembles, students' personal projects and to teach the basics of digital recording to his auditorium tech crew.
Cheryl Wiener has been an instrumental music teacher in Regional District 13 since 2000 at Lyman and Korn Elementary Schools. She started teaching third grade general music during the 2008-2009 academic year at Korn School. Ms. Wiener has a Bachelor of Music degree from the Hartt School of Music and a Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music. She pursued education coursework at Central Connecticut State University as well as at the Alternate Route to Teacher Certification (State of CT). She has a strong performance background having performed with the New Haven Symphony, Hartford Symphony, New Britain Symphony, Orchestra New England, Syracuse Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony and Israel Philharmonic as timpanist/percussionist. She has also performed on drum set for the Friday Night Live series at Congregation Beth El in West Hartford and at the Goodspeed Opera House as well as for various musical theater productions throughout the state. She has taught at the Neighborhood Music School and Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School in New Haven, CT as well as at Holyoke Community College and Community Music School of Springfield in Massachusetts. Her interests outside of music are in a Taoist yoga practice called Sun Do, hiking, as well as in holistic health and nutrition.
Mr. Robison comes from a musical family and started his formal music training at The Juilliard School Pre-College Division majoring in Double Bass. Mr. Robison earned his B.S. in music education at The Hartt School of the University of Hartford and continues his graduate studies at Central Connecticut State University. He and his wife, Laura Robison, thoroughly enjoy teaching music in the public schools and serving on the board of directors of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. Mr. Robison also enjoys composing music and running music programs for children and adults through Durham Recreation.
Allan Schulenburg is the music teacher at Memorial middle school. He received his bachelor of music from the Hartt School of music in 2004 with a vocal emphasis. He teaches 5th and 6th grade general music and 5th and 6th grade chorus. Allan Schulenburg also runs Select Chorus an after school ensemble that has forty-five members. Select chorus was started in 2008 with only 18 members and has grown both in numbers and musically. Allan Schulenburg is also the co-director of the Memorial school drama club. This is his second year in his current role as co-director. Previous credits include “Annie”, and “Alice in Wonderland”.
Mr. Meurs has been a music educator in the district for the past four years. During this time he has worked with middle school music choral students, elementary general music and chorus students, and founded the middle school select chorus, known as “No Limits”. Prior to this experience, Mr. Meurs taught general music in the city of Waterbury where he started to craft both his music educations skills, along developing an integrated, multi-discipline approach in teaching music.
Mr. Meurs has a Masters of Music Education from the University of Bridgeport, a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Connecticut with an emphasis in vocal studies. Mr. Meurs also spent 8 years in the Army National Guard as a Combat Bridge Engineer. He is happily married and has a daughter.
Steven FitzGerald is an active performer and educator in the New England area. He is currently the principal saxophonist with the 102d Army Band in Rockville, CT. Steven was a featured artist at the 2003 Navy Saxophone Symposium. He works frequently with chamber groups as a clinician and is extremely passionate about teaching at the Intermediate level. He received his Music Education Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and graduated with Honors from the Hartt School of Music with a Masters degree in Saxophone Performance.
Timothy Fisher is the band director at Memorial Middle School where he directs the 5th Grade Band, 6th Grade Band, and Jazz Band. Mr. Fisher holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music in Berea, Ohio and a Masters Degree in Trombone Performance from The Hartt School, West Hartford, CT. Mr. Fisher currently plays trombone in the Miklos Quartet, a unique ensemble that commissions new music by young composers. He also gigs regularly on bass guitar with a local steel drumming band. Mr. Fisher enjoys arranging and composing original music for the bands at Memorial School. He has also written many arrangements for jazz ensemble. In his free time Mr. Fisher loves playing hockey and is a die hard fan of the greatest sports team on earth - the New York Jets.

Lisa Larsen is Choral Director at Coginchaug and Strong Middle School where she is responsible for the musical mind building of students in Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Show Choir, high school musicals and the 8th Grade Chorus. She is a member of the Teachers 30 Years/Beyond Club and has the gray hair to prove it. Lisa followed in the musical footsteps of her parents and is forever grateful to them for sharing their wisdom and incredible work ethic.
